Units for the PBA-3 panel cutting machine

 

5 axis unit 55 kW with tool changer

The water-cooled PBA main unit with spindle drive is rated at 55 kW, with a stepless speed range of 0 to 13,000 rpm.  
The HSK-80-E tool holder can accommodate saw blades, drill bits, end mills, plate cutters, along with dovetail mills, cylindrical mills etc. Tool management and selection occurs in Hundegger's CAMBIUM production software,
Depending upon the requirements of the part to be processed, the suitable tool from the tool-change magazine is automatically switched. The 30-compartment tool magazine moves along with the gantry, minimising tool-change time.
Besides type, diameter, length and magazine slot, characteristic data of the milling or drilling tools include optimal speed, which is called up automatically when the respective tool is applied.
This flexibility ideally suits the PBA 5-axis unit to the widest range of applications and processing purposes.  All processing is executed on 5 part sides in a single clamping.  
As an option, the PBA 5-axis unit can also receive a crosshead. This allows processing also on part undersides, with a processing depth of up to 300 mm.

5 axis unit 22 kW with tool changer

Mounted on a separate support, the 5-axis unit features a drive rating of max. 38 kW, with a maximum speed of 8,000 rpm.
The unit automatically positions itself at angles from 0 to 360 degrees and at inclinations from 0 to 90 degrees.
The HSK-80-E tool holder can accommodate saw blades, drill bits, end mills, plate cutters, along with dovetail mills, cylindrical mills etc. Tool selection and administration occurs in Hundegger's CAMBIUM production software.

5-axis sawing unit

Mounted on a separate support, the 5-axis sawing unit features a drive rating of up to 22 kW, with a maximum speed of 6,000 rpm.

The unit automatically positions itself at angles from 0 to 360 degrees and at inclinations from 0 to 90 degrees. This makes possible practically every kind of longitudinal, diagonal or mitre cut.
At 0 degree inclination, a 1,100 mm blade allows a maximum cutting depth 400 mm.
While the part is being processed by the first unit, the next tool is already being switched on the second unit. Thus, idle time is reduced to a minimum.

Chainsaw

The chainsaw, which is installed on the 5-axis unit using the HSK 80E, features a maximum slot depth of 500 mm and slot width of 12 mm when used with a HSS chain. Alternately, a carbide chain with 14mm slot width can be used. The saw bar's special geometry allows precise production of corners (without radii), e.g. for window or door cuts!

Vertical milling units

The motors driving the vertical milling units have ratings from 5.5 kW to 22 kW. The units can be equipped with various end-, profile-, finger- or plate milling cutters. (max. ø 310 mm, max. length 350 mm). Thus, any number of openings and contours can be milled and all types of profiling, dovetailing, slots, rabbets etc. can be produced. What's more, speed regulation of the motors (up to 6,000 rpm), allows optimum cutting speed to be set for each tool.
A floating milling unit is optionally available.

Vertical drilling devices

With a rating of 3.0 kW, vertical drilling devices (3.0 kW) can drill through parts of up to 480 mm. In addition, all types of blind holes, countersinks or ring dowels can be produced with the computer-controlled power stroke. Drilling units feature quick-action chucks, along with turret head drill guides; infinitely variable speeds can be set from 750 rpm to 3,000 rpm.

Horizontal deep-hole drilling unit 360° swivel

The deep-hole drilling unit installed on the operator side serves for drilling of horizontal openings on all part sides. It can be equipped with special deep-hole drills of Ø25 to Ø50 mm. Maximum drilling depth is 1,250 mm.
Feed is via electric motor and can be adapted to the corresponding drill diameters. Infinitely variable speed is adjustable to 3,000 rpm.

Line laser

The line laser projects red crosshairs onto the part whose image is transmitted by camera to the work station monitor. Operation occurs from the workstation, with the provided software.

Optoelectronic reference unit

The laser light section method can be used to accurately determine the position of parts placed in any way.

Mode 1: Calibration of raw panel
Once present at a predefined 0-position, guided by sensors, the still unedged raw panel is automatically conveyed forward. Besides sufficiently precise x and y positioning, the glue joint path can also be included in processing, independently of any projections/glue residue. Cuts running diagonally from the glue joint thus become a thing of the past.

Mode 2: Recalibration of a partially-processed panel
Once brought to a predefined 0-position, the partially-processed panel is automatically conveyed forward

with the help of sensors and measured once again in x and y directions.

Lift-out device

With the 4-axis lift-out device (x-, y-, z-axis and rotation axis) the cutouts to be removed are picked up at the respective centre of gravity, extracted and deposited on a roller conveyor which moves with the gantry Depending on size and position, the oddment can optionally be rotated by 90 degrees.
Per panel, deposited parts can either be conveyed to a following rest wood roller conveyor or placed in the opposite direction onto the waste disposal conveyor running.

Centralised lubrication

The central lubrication system provides all lubrication points with the required volume of lubricant, thus limiting maintenance to a minimum.
If the machine is equipped with centralised lubrication, one or more containers of fluid lubricant will be placed at the corresponding unit or at the gantry.
